As manufacturers nationwide deal with the continuing shortage of workers with technical skills, Manpower, Inc., (NYSE: MAN) has taken a new step to alleviate that shortage. The world's leading provider of staffing and workforce management solutions has joined with the U.S. Department of Commerce and the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) in sponsoring GetTech, a multimedia campaign designed to encourage young people to prepare for careers that utilize math, science and technology skills.
The campaign, organized by the NAM's Center for Workforce Success, was launched October 2 at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. Speakers included Secretary of Commerce Norman Mineta, Jerry Jasinowski, president of the NAM, and Tim Timken, chairman-elect of the NAM.
"Every day, we work with manufacturers that welcome students and graduates with technical skills and want to see more of them," said Jeffrey Joerres, president and chief executive officer of Manpower. "There are all kinds of opportunities waiting for students who have the motivation and discipline to develop skills in math, science and technology. Manpower encourages and supports their efforts to pursue those skills."
The GetTech campaign will include national television and radio public service announcements as well as a dedicated Web site at http://www.gettech.org/ . In addition, GetTech materials are being sent, in partnership with the Department of Education, to all 14,000 public middle schools nationwide.
