"We feel good about the number of people and lives that we have positively affected, because we can have an economic effect," said Jeff Joerres, Manpower Inc. Chairman and CEO. "It is our ability to balance profitability with sustainability that allows us to help the economy grow by putting people of all kinds to work. The success we achieve in our business ensures the sustainability of Manpower as a strong corporate citizen, as evidenced by over six decades as a leader in the changing world of work."

To be included in the index, companies need to demonstrate that they are working toward the highest standards in several categories, including environmental management. In the past 12 months, the company's world headquarters achieved Gold Status under the LEED certification system for the environmentally sustainable design, construction and operation of buildings - the first new construction in Milwaukee to achieve Gold Status. In addition, Manpower was named to Newsweek's list of the greenest big companies in America and, for the second year in a row, to the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, which is based on a company's performance in areas such as corporate governance, environmental performance and human rights policies.

"Manpower's commitment to strong environmental performance is key to our leadership in contemporary working," added Joerres. "This year, we hosted our annual Global Leadership Meeting 'virtually' for the second consecutive year. Our leaders were still able to interact with colleagues in an annual conference that is vital to our strategic planning and execution, but by holding the meeting virtually we eliminated almost one million miles of air travel, which equals 400,000 pounds of CO2 emissions."

Other criteria on which companies were judged for inclusion in the FTSE4Good Global Index Series include human rights and supply chain labor standards. Manpower continues its work with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and was one of the founding partners in the ninemillion.org campaign. Manpower is a corporate signatory of the UN Global Compact, working to advance universal principles in the areas of human rights, labor and anti-corruption. Manpower was also the first company to sign the Athens Ethical Principles, leading the effort to encourage other corporations to sign on and support the organization's goal to eradicate human trafficking.
